Relaxing holidays – Here are some great tips to unwind and relax on holiday
People often go on holiday to relax and de-stress. Many of us lead busy lifestyles whether it be at work or at home. All though you can have some excellent holidays back home, many people only seem to be able to truly switch off when they holiday abroad. Recent polls have stated that only around 50% of people return from holiday feeling properly rejuvenated and relaxed. With the digital age most of us are usually on our phones or computers so it’s hard to switch off and enjoy your surroundings.
North Cyprus has a calm vibe, especially when you’re out of the towns and cities. With its friendly people, warm weather, beautiful beaches to its steep mountain ranges with amazing views you’ll find your ideal place to enjoy and de-stress.
Here are some good tips to help you enjoy a relaxing holiday:
1. Do something new
By learning or doing something new you can really switch off and focus on what you are doing. Some people can quite happily lie on a beach for hours but if you’re the type of person that gets board of sitting around after half an hour, why not try surfing, scuba diving paragliding or one of the many other activities North Cyprus has to offer. Or you might just want to be able to take some great pictures or learn a new language, the list is endless.
2. Treat yourself to a spa treatment
What could be more relaxing? Everyone enjoys a bit of pampering. Why not book yourself some “you time” and escape the pressures and stress of your normal daily life with some soothing massages and spa treatment. It is believed that spa and massage can, boost energy, enhance relaxation, ease pain as well as improve mood, and well-being. Cleanse your body and mind with one the great spa’s available at most hotels.
3. Enjoy fresh food and juice
You are what you eat. Enjoy local fresh foods and freshly squeezed fruit juice. Eating fresh and healthy food and drinking fresh juice full of vitamins will revitilise you and allow you to focus on your well-being. The vitamins, antioxidants, minerals and fibber will improve your mood and give you some amazing energy.
Meditation and controlled breathing helps you to control your nervous system, which allows the balance the surges of cortisol and adrenaline that accompany stress. Clear your mind or focus on the present.
5. Be active
Sport releases endorphins which make you feel good. It also burns off fat and is a great de-stressor. If you have a busy day of sport, whether it be swimming, playing golf, playing football on the beach, walking or going to the gym, you are bound to get a good relaxing night’s sleep. If you haven’t been active for a while, a holiday can be a great time to start.
6. Be creative
Get painting or drawing. Studies have shown that art is a great way to reduce stress levels. Focusing on painting a picture or creating art is a good way of distracting your thoughts from whatever was causing you anxiety or stress in the first place. As an added bonus you will have something to take home which you can hang on your wall to remember your holiday from.
7. Get walking and explore the outdoors
Walking even for a short amount of time outdoors being next to nature is enough to increase feelings of calm and improve your well-being. North Cyprus has some wonderful natural surroundings. Go and get your walking boots on and come and explore.
8. Switch off
Do you want to charge your own batteries then turn off your phoneor laptop and quit checking your messages or emails. You should be on holiday to enjoy your new surroundings. Being in constant contact with others and what’s going on keeps your mind in an active state. If you really want a break from the norm, why don’t you turn your camera on and go capture some special moments or beautiful landscapes or have a lazy day by the pool. It’s your time don’t spend it working.
